Rhinoplasty

What is a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is the technical term for nose surgery. Cosmetic rhinoplasties are performed by a aesthetic surgeon for aesthetic enhancement of the nose, which forms the centrepiece of the face. Medical rhinoplasties are performed for functional reasons, such as to relieve obstruction (Septoplasty) or to correct deformities resulting from previous trauma. Frequently, aesthetic enhancements are performed concurrently during medical rhinoplasties.

What can a Singapore Rhinoplasty achieve?
Cosmetic rhinoplasties can achieve many things, some of which are:

  • Augmentation of the nose – with implants or cartilage
  • Reduction of the nose
  • Correction of droopy noses
  • Refinement of the nose tip – tip-plasty
  • Straightening of crooked noses
  • Refinement of open or large nostrils
  • Narrowing of wide noses – alarplasty

What is the difference between an open and a closed Rhinoplasty?
A closed rhinoplasty in Singapore describes a nose operation in which all the incisions and resulting scars are hidden within the nostrils. This means that there are no visible external scars with a closed approach. An open rhinoplasty usually has an additional small incision across the base of the collumella, which is the tissue separating the nostrils. The resulting scar is usually inconspicuous and cannot be seen from the front.

How long does the surgery take?
There is a wide variation in duration depending on the complexity of the procedure. It usually ranges between 30 to 120 minutes.

What is the recovery time?
Recovery time varies with the complexity of the surgery, with closed rhinoplasties having shorter downtime than open procedures. Most of our patients return to work within a week following closed rhinoplasties and within ten days following open ones.
